Claire & Chris's Wedding at Rivington Hall Barn

August 18, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

The second of our weekend weddings was Saturday for the marriage of Claire and Chris at the beautiful Rivington Hall Barn near Horwich.

Despite it being one of the rainiest days of the year so far we managed enough outdoor dry time to get the group shots the happy couple wanted and while we were waiting for the rain to stop we ventured among the trees with the assistance of Phil from Horgans Wedding Cars who crouched down behind to keep the train of Claire's dress from getting a soaking in the long grass. Thanks to Phil for helping us on the day - can't say enough good things about Horgans - they really are the best. Staff at the Barn were also extremely helpful on what could have been a disappointing wedding weather day but for their kind assistance.

Honeymoon in The Maldives will be a nice contrast to yesterdays' weather!

Here's a fun shot from setting up the shoot in the woods and another of the inside of the barn in the evening.

Samantha & Andy's engagement shoot at Knowsley Safari Park!

When Andy told me he had an idea for a location for their engagement shoot I thought great, I always love it when the Groom really takes an active interest in the photography. He was a bit coy about it and said he'd rather not share the location it until a bit closer to the day - the suspense!!

Well he is a Head Keeper and Team Leader at Knowsley Safari Park so that's where we ended up this afternoon among the elephants and giraffes!

Helen & Thomas's Devonshire House Hotel Wedding

Not posted here for a while so thought it was about time I added something.

Here's a small collage of some shots from Helen and Thomas's Wedding last Saturday. The ceremony took place at St Paul's in West Derby then on to the Devonshire House Hotel on Edge Lane in Liverpool.

What a contrast weather wise to Friday when we got soaked at a Wedding in Congleton. It's not very often we complain about too much sunshine!!

Wedding albums or images on discs only?

April 03, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

We are really pleased to see that there is a trend back towards couples choosing to have an album of their wedding photos rather than simply asking for everything on disc. Our main album supplier (Graphistudio - the world leader in digital storybooks) has just launched a totally new concept that means the wedding album will never be the same again!

As Kathleen Trenske says in the linked blog article (click here to read it), "of all the things you spend money on for your wedding, your wedding photographs are the ONLY thing that will increase in value over time."

How many of us have video and audio cassettes or computer discs (the 3.5 inch type never mind 5.25 inch), old 78 RPM records or 8 track tapes languishing in the back of a cupboard because we no longer have anything capable of playing them?

Many new laptop computers no longer have built-in CD?DVD drives and rely on USB memory sticks. How long before CD's and DVD's go the same way as video cassettes not forgetting that discs do deteriorate over time and can suddenly become unreadable?

Do you really want to risk consigning your wedding day memories to the back of a cupboard forever? We recently scanned a set of wedding photos from 70 years ago to create a digital storybook album as a gift for an elderly couple who couldn't afford to have an actual album produced when they were first married. At least they had a set of photos that could be used to create one.

Think of your children and grandchildren - they are bound to ask to see your wedding photos at some time in the future and how will it feel to admit that you didn't think having an album was an important way of remembering the biggest day of your lives?

Take a read through Kathleen's blog and think if this applies to you. We offer a range of stunning state of the art Wedding albums that will be handed down through your family for generations to come so before it's too late think what is more important for your wedding day. Is it the flash cars, the expensive cake or preserving the memories? Only you can answer that question but please consider it seriously when allocating the budget for your big day.

Once you've made your decision give us a call and let us show you how a world-class wedding album can be one of the most important decisions you make in planning your big day.

Photography copyright in the UK

March 25, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

There are a growing number of incidences where photographers have been reported to be using another photographer's images on their web sites with the implication that it is their own work.

Besides being illegal to do so without permission it is also deceitful to lead potential clients to believe that someone else's work is their own. Can you imagine a couple looking to book their Wedding photographer and, being totally unaware that this sort of practice occurs, end up booking someone whose web site has misled them. The potential for a disastrous outcome is pretty obvious and could ruin the most important day of the couple's lives.

In some cases the culprits have claimed to be ignorant of the law of copyright and simply said that they liked the image and it was something they aspired to so thought it would be OK to simply copy it from the internet and use it. I even had someone tell me recently that a web site developer friend frequently lifts images from the internet!

The British Photographers' Liaison Committee have produced an excellent document called the ABCD of UK Photographic Copyright which provides a clear guide to the law.

Ignorance of the law is neither excuse or defence. If you would like to acquaint yourself with the legislation click on this link to read the document.

Illegal use of someone else's photographs can result in the owner issuing an invoice for several thousands of pounds, especially if the use is for obvious business purposes.
