]]>I really am surprised at the number of Bridal salons that appear not to give any instruction as to how best to lace up a dress so thought I should find a suitable video and load it here for people to access whenever they have the need.
The video was very kindly supplied by Ribbons and Pearls in Cookham, Berkshire. They had it created some time ago for their Brides and have given me permission to use it. The video tells you to set aside 30 minutes to lace up your dress and while some might think that excessive most Brides find themselves running short on time once they get to the stage of getting into their gown.
There are other videos on Youtube but most follow the same routine as shown here however most are from the US and I just felt that most would be more comfortable with a UK version. I've also chosen to call it a Wedding dress rather than a Bridal gown which is a more American term!
Please feel free to share a link to this video with any Brides to be that you know.

The photo is from a wedding we shot last year and this link takes you to a Bridal blog which guides you through the process.
Hope is helps someone!
]]>The photo set below shows the wrong and correct ways to attach a buttonhole while the link will take you to the "how to tie" page of the Cravat Company. Remember that a man's buttonhole goes on the left lapel while, traditionally, a lady's corsage is attached on the right hand side of her dress or jacket.
We're always happy to help but are starting to provide our couples with this information before their big day in an effort to reduce some of the stress!

]]>One of the features for them was Ged’s traditional Wiccan handfasting ring which was designed specially for him. Lindsey’s ring was also unique and the result of much deliberation.
Around twenty minutes before the ceremony was due to start Ged and Chris, his Best Man, realized that they couldn’t find the box with the rings in. After lots of head scratching, and going over their movements since leaving Ged’s Mum’s house in Woolston, Ged decided he must have left them in the pocket of the jacket he wore that morning and had simply forgotten them.
With insufficient time for anyone to go back and pick them up they decided that the only real option was to borrow a couple of rings for the ceremony and have someone go and collect them afterwards. Rings were duly borrowed and Chris, the Best Man, explained the situation to Lindsey when she arrived in the Bridal car.
The ceremony began with a very embarrassed Groom apologizing to his Bride for somehow forgetting the rings.
As they were signing the Register a young couple arrived and spoke with one of the Ushers explaining that they had found a box with two rings in and, putting two and two together, decided they probably belonged to the Wedding they saw taking place.
By the time the Register was signed and photos taken Lindsey and Ged were wearing their Wedding rings and what could have been a very costly and disappointing day was saved by the honesty of a young Warrington couple out enjoying a walk in a local park with their little Daughter.
We managed to get the young couple, Steve Preston and Nicole Harney, together with the Bride and Groom so they could express their gratitude and thank them properly for their honesty. The ring box had fallen un-noticed from Ged’s pocket as he got out of the car on arrival at Walton Hall and not been spotted by anyone until Steve and Nicole came across it lying at the side of the path.
]]>A beautiful sunny day and eleven very competitive teams made for a real fun event so well done to all those who took part including Graham Fisher's International Knockout and Vanessa and the team from St Rocco's for putting on such an entertaining and exciting fund raiser.
]]>A really relaxed and informal day with the Bride arriving for the ceremony on the Thomas The Tank Engine train!!
]]>Despite it being one of the rainiest days of the year so far we managed enough outdoor dry time to get the group shots the happy couple wanted and while we were waiting for the rain to stop we ventured among the trees with the assistance of Phil from Horgans Wedding Cars who crouched down behind to keep the train of Claire's dress from getting a soaking in the long grass. Thanks to Phil for helping us on the day - can't say enough good things about Horgans - they really are the best. Staff at the Barn were also extremely helpful on what could have been a disappointing wedding weather day but for their kind assistance.
Honeymoon in The Maldives will be a nice contrast to yesterdays' weather!
Here's a fun shot from setting up the shoot in the woods and another of the inside of the barn in the evening.

Well he is a Head Keeper and Team Leader at Knowsley Safari Park so that's where we ended up this afternoon among the elephants and giraffes!
It was great fun spending time there with them and getting so close to the animals. They're a lovely couple and the staff at Knowsley were all so welcoming and helpful.
]]>
What a wonderful day and lovely families - always makes it so much easier when the sun shines and everyone is in good spirits.
]]>Here's a small collage of some shots from Helen and Thomas's Wedding last Saturday. The ceremony took place at St Paul's in West Derby then on to the Devonshire House Hotel on Edge Lane in Liverpool.
What a contrast weather wise to Friday when we got soaked at a Wedding in Congleton. It's not very often we complain about too much sunshine!!

As Kathleen Trenske says in the linked blog article (click here to read it), "of all the things you spend money on for your wedding, your wedding photographs are the ONLY thing that will increase in value over time."
How many of us have video and audio cassettes or computer discs (the 3.5 inch type never mind 5.25 inch), old 78 RPM records or 8 track tapes languishing in the back of a cupboard because we no longer have anything capable of playing them?
Many new laptop computers no longer have built-in CD?DVD drives and rely on USB memory sticks. How long before CD's and DVD's go the same way as video cassettes not forgetting that discs do deteriorate over time and can suddenly become unreadable?
Do you really want to risk consigning your wedding day memories to the back of a cupboard forever? We recently scanned a set of wedding photos from 70 years ago to create a digital storybook album as a gift for an elderly couple who couldn't afford to have an actual album produced when they were first married. At least they had a set of photos that could be used to create one.
Think of your children and grandchildren - they are bound to ask to see your wedding photos at some time in the future and how will it feel to admit that you didn't think having an album was an important way of remembering the biggest day of your lives?
Take a read through Kathleen's blog and think if this applies to you. We offer a range of stunning state of the art Wedding albums that will be handed down through your family for generations to come so before it's too late think what is more important for your wedding day. Is it the flash cars, the expensive cake or preserving the memories? Only you can answer that question but please consider it seriously when allocating the budget for your big day.
Once you've made your decision give us a call and let us show you how a world-class wedding album can be one of the most important decisions you make in planning your big day.

Besides being illegal to do so without permission it is also deceitful to lead potential clients to believe that someone else's work is their own. Can you imagine a couple looking to book their Wedding photographer and, being totally unaware that this sort of practice occurs, end up booking someone whose web site has misled them. The potential for a disastrous outcome is pretty obvious and could ruin the most important day of the couple's lives.
In some cases the culprits have claimed to be ignorant of the law of copyright and simply said that they liked the image and it was something they aspired to so thought it would be OK to simply copy it from the internet and use it. I even had someone tell me recently that a web site developer friend frequently lifts images from the internet!
The British Photographers' Liaison Committee have produced an excellent document called the ABCD of UK Photographic Copyright which provides a clear guide to the law.
Ignorance of the law is neither excuse or defence. If you would like to acquaint yourself with the legislation click on this link to read the document.
Illegal use of someone else's photographs can result in the owner issuing an invoice for several thousands of pounds, especially if the use is for obvious business purposes.
]]>The recent glut of wedding photographers either offering huge “discounts” or Groupon style deals led me to investigate a little into why they might feel the need to be giving their services away.
When you choose and hire your Wedding photographer you are usually looking at elements of style, personality and price. If not then you need to rethink your process of finding the right photographer for the biggest day of your life. You also need to get everything in a written contract signed by both parties that describes what you will get and what will happen if either party is unable to fulfill their obligations.
Let’s look first at style. The only way you can successfully do this is by looking at a range of a photographer’s work and see if you believe they can meet your personal expectation for your big day. There’s no point in choosing a great photojournalist style photographer if you want a lot of formal and family group shots as it’s simply not the way they work. Likewise if you want mostly candid and informal photos from your Wedding there’s no point in choosing someone whose sample albums are full of nothing but formal groups. Discuss in detail what you want from your Wedding day to capture the emotion, fun and memories in a style that you will treasure, be happy to show to family and friends and pass down to future generations.
The second consideration is personality. It’s absolutely essential that you meet with your potential Wedding photographer before booking them. Other than your new Spouse you photographer is the one person you will spend most time with on your Wedding day so it’s vital that you believe you can get along with them on one of the most stressful days of your lives. If you have the slightest doubt then it’s best to find out early and move on to find someone whose personality and temperament gel with your own.
The third element was price. The average cost of a Wedding in the UK today is in the region of £17,500. A simple guide is to allocate at least 15% of your total budget for photography, including albums and parent books. A reputable full time professional Wedding photographer is dependent on shooting Weddings to pay the bills and put food on the table. It means they devote their working life to nothing else other than this. There is a great misconception that a Wedding photographer only spends around the eight hours time attending your Wedding. Think of the time spent meeting with you to discuss your plans for the big day, perhaps an engagement shoot, attending the rehearsal if it’s a church ceremony then there’s the Wedding day itself. Assuming your photographer travels to your home to shoot your Bridal preparations, goes to the church, and then on to the venue. The average length of such a day is in the region of ten to twelve hours. Then take into account that there was most likely a second photographer present from the Grooms arrival at the church or venue until the start of the Wedding breakfast – another six or seven hours. Up to this point the total time is in the region of twenty two to twenty five hours.
Then when he or she gets home they have to back up all the memory cards they’ve used. Next working day they’ll start going through all the images and deleting those that didn’t work for some reason and any duplicates of group shots. The real work of editing starts after this and if there is no album involved you can easily spend another ten hours on this alone. At this point we’ve counted up around thirty four hours (a working week for most people).
When you consider that every Wedding has to make a contribution to the expensive professional equipment used, cameras, lenses, flashguns, memory cards, batteries, computers, storage space, web site, marketing, travel, insurance, phones, vehicle running costs and taxes there isn’t a lot of profit in a £600 deal which, after tax, delivers less than £270 profit to pay the bills and put food on the table. Work it out an hourly basis and it’s just above the minimum wage of £6.19.
I spoke with a Bride to be recently who had booked a Groupon style offer for two photographers to cover her Wedding in June of this year (2013) for £299 for eight hours attendance (sixteen hours total). Add travel time alone to that and you’re already at 20 hours before any post Wedding day work like editing and burning to disc. After tax that gives them less than £195 profit split between two people, out of which they have to fund all the other business expenses I mentioned above. If they shoot 35 Weddings a year at that price the total after tax is less than £6,900 for two people to share. I can’t think of anyone who can live on that, and they still need to deduct all the other business expenses. This type of activity often smacks of desperation and the road to a bankrupt business.
There have been too many stories of businesses making these offers going out of business and leaving people out of pocket. Not something to risk for the biggest day of your life! If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.
]]>People say that Wedding photography can be one of the msot stressful jobs in the world but reading this just makes it so worthwhile.
“Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything you did for us on the run up to the wedding and the day itself. I think it is so important to choose a photographer who is not only talented at his/her job but also somebody you feel comfortable and totally at ease with, hence the reason we snapped you up!!
You all did an absolute fantastic job. You were all so attentive and really listened to what we wanted from our day. Even when things didn't go exactly to plan (people disappearing) you still managed to organise everything so that we got all the shots we wanted and more.
As you can imagine we are thrilled with the main storybook album and the mothers both love their albums. They have been round both the families and my mother has taken our album into work. I believe you have, or will soon have a new client because a lot of mums work colleagues were so impressed with your work.
Anyway thanks again. We will be in touch again for our next lot of photos.
Many thanks Jim
Nicola & Jonathan”
]]>Really love it when we get to help a couple celebrate the most important day of their lives.
]]>The sun shone for us from start to finish and both Andy and I had a great day helping them celebrate and capturing all the emotion, fun and memories. From the wonderful 80+ year old Father Jim to the various musicians who played throughout the day and night it really was a great start to our Wedding year.
Now that the happy couple have seen their photos here's one of the fun shots from the day. Congratulations Liz and Kieran and thanks for allowing us to be part of your special day!
]]>Send them along to the Wedding Fayre at Park Manor in Warrington on Saturday 23 February and let us show them how we can help the mcapture all the emotions and memories for posterity.
]]>They mostly have their wedding album to look at whenever they feel like reliving the day but sometimes it's nice to have something permanently on display that reminds them of the day and their friends. Guest books are great but they usually end up in a drawer or in a box on top of the wardrobe!
We think the best way to keep the memories alive is with a framed signing board hanging in a prominent position in their home. Featuring a photo from their engagement shoot surrounded by the hand-written congratulations and best wishes of family and friends it reminds them of the day and brings a smile to their faces whenever they see it - helping them re-live the memories every day.
Here's an example from one of our recent weddings just to show what we mean.
If you're planning your Wedding day and would like a signing board as part of your photography then give us a ring and find out how we can not only capture your special day but also provide you with a permanent reminder to display prominently in your home.
Eva is one of the most loveable children you could wish to meet and sometimes has crazy days however this session she was mostly being very demure and pensive. Although there were also some more boisterous shots as you can see!

Earliest surprise of the day for our Bride Laura was when her Wedding gift from Sam was delivered while she was getting ready for church.
How many Brides are lucky enough to have their Groom give them a brand new Mini Countryman (and a diamond necklace!) for their Wedding present?!
Despite the weather we had a great day and had a short break in the rain when we managed to take advantage of this beautiful venue and it's surrounds.
Congratulations Laura and Sam on your marriage and first Christmas together as Mr and Mrs.
]]>Lots of favourite shots from the day so thought I would share a collage of some of them.

The Wedding ceremony was in Inverness Cathedral at 2 PM so the light was fading quite fast when we got to Bunchrew however it didn't stop us all having a great time and getting some great photos.
We had a RAF Sword Party from 617 Squadron providing a ceremonial sword arch outside the Cathedral after the ceremony. Then it was on to the beautiful Bunchrew House on the shores of the Beauly Firth for the wedding breakfast and the opportunity to capture some wonderful photos of the happy couple with family and friends.
Thought I would share a couple from the day as we had such a wonderful time and Roddy, General Manager at Bunchrew, and his staff could not have been more helpful.
]]>Then off to Bunchrew house Hotel where we are staying for two nights as it's the Wedding breakfast venue.
Really looking forward to getting some unique images at two stunning locations.
]]>Keilia was one of the lovely Brides to be who came along to the Warrington Weddings Festival at the Pyramid Centre in Warrington on Sunday so I visited her and her partner this evening to show them sample albums and find out their plans for their big day.
Another 2014 booking and two more meetings booked for when we get back from our Inverness wedding this weekend.
2013 is filling up nicely and we've already go several bookings in for 2014 so any Brides to be out there who might be interested should check soon to make sure we still have their date available.
]]>
Lots of lovely Brides to be and their Grooms stopped by for a chat about their upcoming Warrington and Cheshire weddings.
We've got several follow-up meetings planned to visit couples and discuss their wedding photography wishes.
There was a catwalk show on the day with lots of bridal gowns by some of the biggest names on display.
Here's a shot of four of our lovely girls modelling the gowns.
]]>Lifestyle shoot this morning with a lovely family then off to meet up with one of our upcoming wedding couples.
Home to process this morning's shoot then a phone call booking a wedding consult meeting tomorrow evening!
All ready to shoot some classical concert guitars tomorrow morning and a wedding consult meeting tomorrow evening.
]]>Every recent Vicar or Priest we've spoken with has asked that we tell guests to please not throw any of the shiny metallic confetti as it sticks to paths and buildings and is expensive to clean off as it isn't biodegradable.
While the newer biodegradable confetti is more environmentally friendly it's a lot less colourful so we're encouraging couples to tell their families and friends to consider rose petals instead. They're certainly bigger, more colourful and biodegradable meaning everyone is happy and we get much nicer confetti shots with the bigger petals.
]]>
Just love the backlighting in this shot.
]]>Helen was a Bridesmaid at the Wedding of Charlotte and Luke at Trafford Hall earlier this year so it was great to get the referral from Charlotte.
Really looking forward to shooting Helen as the Bride this time:)
]]>Just took delivery today of a new sample album that will fill a gap in our range - really pleased with the quality and service and can't wait to display it as the Wedding Fayre at Warrington Town Hall this coming Sunday from 12:00 to 16:00.
We now have what we think tis a good range on offer from quality suppliers in the UK, Europe and Australia.
Tell us what you would like to see in terms of a wedding album style and we'll see what the market has to offer however we insist on only offering quality products that will stand the test of time.
]]>I'm also in the process of adding links for those businesses we work with and are happy to recommend.
Take a look at www.jimhunterphotography.co.uk/links and if you work with us and aren't listed please drop me an email and we can exchange links to mutual benefit.

First success was convincing the Vicar he should let me shoot at the front of the Church which is usually a complete no-no in this church.
Second part of the day was an amazing helicopter trip for Andy when he accompanied the happy couple on their helicopter trip to Walton Hall in Warrington for their Wedding Breakfast celebrations. He got some great shots of the crowd waiting their arrival on the ground while we shot the helicopter descent and the various aerobatics their pilot Mark did on the way.
This really is an amazing job helping such lovely people celebrate the biggest day of their lives.
Here's a sneak peek with a shot of Kim and Craig after they got out of the helicopter at Walton Hall.
Thanks to Mike and his team at Walton Hall for their help on the day. Keeping the area marshalled so that no other visitors could stray onto the landing area.
Then it was off to the Main campus at Hope Park for the evening celebrations where we got a few more relaxed shots of the Bride and Groom before their evening Reception.
]]>
After completing the group shots we wandered off along the promenade with the happy couple to grab a few more intimate shots away fomr the distraction of their guests and came across an ice cream van.
Too good an opportunity to resist for a non traditional Wedding shot so here it is
]]>One of the most lovely and cooperative Vicars you could ever hope to meet who even took part in some of the fun photos outside the church.
We had a great time and got some amazing shots of the happy couple. Even got some bedroom shots with them as they had the Presidential Suite where Bill Clinton stayed when he visited this beautiful venue.
Having almost finished the bedroom set Nicola looked in the bathroom and there was this huge Jacuzzi bath just begging for a gorgeous Bride to lie in it - so here she is!
]]>Well the weather was kind to us today for the wedding of Helen and Eduardo.
Lots of family and friends from Spain gave the day a different feel to many of our recent weddings and it was great fun.
Here’s a sneak peek of them on the platform at The Cottons after the ceremony at the Church of the Ascension in Woolston.
We still have a few dates left for this year so if any of your family or friends are getting married why not tell them to give us a call and see how we can capture the emotion and special moments of their big day for posterity.
]]>Had a fun hour this morning with Jen and Chris when we met up for their engagement shoot in Warrington.
They're getting married in May at Warrington Town Hall so we met up at Starbucks, had a chat over a coffee then off to the venue where I showed them some of the little hidden gem locations both inside and outside the building that we can use to get stunning images on their special day.
After that we wandered round the gardens and took some fun shots of them to help get them used to working with us.
]]>We visited the venue some weeks ago with Nicola and Tony to discuss the layout and where we thought we could get the best shots for them on their special day.
Despite the best efforts of the Met Office we managed to avoid rain for most of the day however we did get a light shower while we were down at the platform on the lake which gave us the opportunity for the first ever umbrella shots at the venue for their blog and web site.
The Higham family who own the venue are the most helpful venue owners you could wish to meet and special thanks goes to Poppy who ferried us to the platform and back on the golf buggy.
We still have a few Wedding dates available for 2012so if you know anyone planning to get married who would like the emotions and memories of their big day captured in a special way that fits their personalities give them our number (01925 393 723) and let us show them how we can help make their Wedding day memories live on through a wonderful collection of photographs.
]]>Spent a great day at the Wedding Fayre organised by NKH Promotions at The Heath in Runcorn yesterday.
Lots of lovely couples to talk with about their upcoming weddings and several appointments to go discuss.
Here's just one of the lovely Bridal models who were working the catwalk for Bride to Be. Can't recall when I last saw so many different dresses at a local event.
]]>Just had a set of my Wedding images published in the Real Weddings feature in the April edition of Wedding Ideas magazine!
We shot the Wedding of Zoe and Mark Lancaster back in June of 2011 at Taxal, just outside Whaley Bridge in The Peak District.
It was a farmhouse wedding with a marquee decorated with wild flowers and a real English country garden theme.
The ceremony was at a lovely little church down the lane from the farmhouse and the Bridal party and guests were all transported back to the farmhouse in decorated open-top trailers pulled by vintage tractors.
It really was a special day. Even the heavens opening as we left the church didn’t dampen any spirits and everyone was quite happy getting soaked on the short trip back to the farmhouse in the trailers.
The whole day was fabulous with a Basil Fawlty impersonator as Toastmaster and entertainment, and a rock band for the evening reception music. A local singer/songwriter even composed something just for them.
I bumped into Zoe only yesterday and she tells me that everyone is still raving about the wonderful day they all had.
Here are a few pages from their Graphistudio album to give some idea of what it was all about.
]]>
What a great day we had yesterday shooting Maria and Wez’s Wedding at St Vincent’s in Altrincham and then at The Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall.
Some great images but don’t even ask about the ripping time one of the guests had with the bear!
Dropped their Honeymoon album off at the Fir Grove this morning then went on to an engagement shoot at Statham Lodge Hotel in Lymm.
]]>Lots of really good family shots and some of the couple on their own as well as some of the kids on their own.
Thought I would just share a few here to show how much we all enjoyed it.
]]>Can't believe we've booked four weddings this week so far!
I saw somewhere that Weddings in England and Wales are up around 4% and it certainly seems like some happy couples have got the Valentines bug!
Our bookings for this year are already up 40% on 2011 and enquiries keep on coming. Had to turn down four in the last two weeks as we are already booked on the dates.
Why not visit www.warringtonweddings.com and see the special referral offer we have running.
Working with our friend Natasha at The Little Basket Shop is really helping promote both our businesses in the Weddings market.
]]>This has to go down as probably my best ever week for Wedding bookings.
Three Wedding confirmed since Sunday, all at stunning venues - Warrington Town Hall, The Mere and Angel Fields at Hope University, and it's only halfway through the week and we took Monday off to go to Focus on Imaging!
On top of that a great family shoots session last Saturday with lots of happy clients viewing and ordering.
Meetings tomorrow with a local hotel and a marketing organisation, an 18th party on Friday night and an engagement shoot on Saturday.
Got a feeling I'm going to be glad of a rest on Sunday!
]]>Spent today with my friends at Toucan Images in Ellesmere Port photographing five different families.
Had some great fun with everyone - ready for a shower and dinner now:)
Here's a shot of Harley having fun this afternoon.
]]>Really looking forward to shooting at this stunning venue in the beautiful Cheshire countryside.
Here's a shot of the hotel and conservatory taken looking across the lake.
]]>
When you've done that and he's accepted give us a call and book your wedding photography!
]]>
Thanks to the lovely Laura and Sam for booking us on the day for their Wedding in December.
Some other lovely couples came to see and we’ll hopefully be meeting up in the next week to see if we might be able to help them celebrate their big day by capturing stunning images for them to remember it for posterity.
